Literally "It was near the eye." This is an idiomatic expression similar to "That was a close call."
It can be combined with a phrase explaining what it was a close call *with*, for example:
"Det var nära ögat att jag dog."
(It was near the eye that I died.)
= "I had a close call with death."
"Det var nära ögat att jag inte hann."
(It was near the eye that I didn't make it on time.)
= "I very nearly didn't make it on time."
